Frequently Asked Questions
I am interested in your service. Tell me about the first step?
The initial consultation is the first step. This usually involves a detailed case history, administration of appropriate assessment procedures and feedback with recommendations. A written summary of assessment findings is available on request. An initial consultation may take up to 90 minutes. Each client is required to undergo an initial assessment for several reasons: 1. To clarify the statement of the problem; 2. To get an understanding of the main problems; and 3. Identify your goals for speech language therapy. |
What do I need to bring along to the initial assessment?
Please bring along your completed pre-assessment intake forms (you may download a copy at the end of this page) and any previous reports or documents that may be relevant to the assessment. For children undergoing assessment, you may want to bring some familiar toys or books that he/she may want to share / talk about with one of our speech language therapists. Where does the speech language therapy take place? We offer community and clinic based speech language therapy. We work in a range of contexts, which include our clinic in Albany, the client’s home, work, rest home, hospital, kindergarten or school setting. The choice of setting depends on our staff availability, and needs of the client. |
How long is a therapy session?
Once the assessment is complete, subsequent therapy sessions are usually 45 minutes once a week. Some clients / families choose longer sessions, or more frequent sessions. Each therapy session is usually coupled with a home program. What are your fees? This is a private paying service. Fees vary depending on the type of intervention required and duration of the session. Please Contact Us for more information regarding our fees and assessment procedures. What happens if we are unable to keep an appointment? |
Clients are required to cancel appointments a day in advance. We have clients on a waiting list who are keen to take up appointments that become available on short notice, we would therefore appreciate it if you let us know as soon as possible if you wish to cancel or re-schedule your appointment. All appointments that are not cancelled a day in advance, will be charged for. More information is available on our pre-assessment information form, which is available on request.
Pre-Assessment Form
Please contact us for information. A pre-assessment intake form is usually emailed to new clients. We suggest that this form get completed and returned to us before our first meeting. This helps with assessment and intervention planning. |
